30 Seconds To Mars was created by Jared Leto and his brother, Shannon Leto. Jared writes the songs, plays guitar and keyboards, and performs the vocals. Shannon is the drummer for the band and has played the drums since he was eight years old. The band began as a small family project in 1998. Tomo Milicevic joined the band in 2002 as their lead guitarist. Tomo also plays piano and has played the violin since the age of three. In 2006, 30 Seconds To Mars was awarded 2 Fuse Chainsaw Awards: Prince of Darkness and Best Video Inspired By A Film. They also won the MTV2 Award for "The Kill" at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. After running on the charts 50 weeks, the song set a record as the longest-running hit in the history of the Modern Rock chart. In 2007, they scored their first number one hit on Billboard's Modern Rock radio chart with the single "From Yesterday". The song’s epic video was shot in the People's Republic of China and was voted the Greatest Epic Video on Yahoo! Music. |
